Living Fertility System Mini Experiments

This is an ongoing project begun in 2012. Below are some experiments we are doing with various things we had lying around we want to see what happens with different materials and how they decompose and what creatures are attracted to what. We are looking to see what ‘moves’ in and what lives here. We suspect that if creatures have a ‘home’ they move in. Also if you haven’t already noticed that usually under wood, stones, rock etc it is generally moister with more fertile soil. We have even noticed plants growing out from under rocks or from the middle of rocks.

Wind Fall branches cut up and piled up
Small living system – sticks, leaves, wood chip mulch
Tin with logs on it
pile of sticks from nearby trees
Hay
old pieces of concrete
below ground Living system – we dug a hole, filled it up with matter and
covered it – see blog post for more detailed information on this particular
project.
Above ground Living System – matter stacked up high, focus on
decomposition rather than composting to encourage living organisms

See blog post of Living Systems for more information. Over time as we document what happens we will add it to this page.

Inspiring People: Jesus, Mary & A Super Cool Dude Called God!

I want to share with you about some friends of ours Jesus and Mary. I have known them approximately three years. When I first met them I was pretty stand offish and actually rather horrid towards them. I have gotten to know them and I feel they are two of the most inspiring people I know. It is not only because of what they have done or achieved – though this is interesting and incredible in it’s own right – it is because of how they live, what they teach and what they stand for. It is their passion about sharing ‘how to’ connect to God and the method that anyone can follow to be at one with God if they want to do so. It is such a beautiful gift they are bringing to the world and I don’t think I quite realise the true significance of it even yet.

Jesus and Mary practice the principles of Divine Truth and put Love and Truth and growing a relationship with God in to action every day. They transparently and openly share about their personal experiences and their ever growing knowledge of God and ‘The Way’ to God that each and everyone of us can walk and be at-one-with- God if we so desire.

Since being a little girl I have always thought that this world could be different, and by different I mean more loving and truthful and open, where ALL souls were loved, cared for and could grow to their full potential in every area imaginable. I believed for a time that any dream, any wonderful thing would come true. That anything I imagined was possible and could and would actually happen, I was convinced of it, any dream I had was not too big or not too hard it was all able to actually be, I thought it would be.

I ‘lost’ this ‘ideal’ as my environment called it, as I got older and became cynical. I still hold the cynical feelings in me but since listening to the teachings of Divine Truth and beginning to grow my own relationship with God I am seeing that many of my ‘ideals’ and ‘imaginings’ when I was a child are actually totally possible and often at their core in harmony with the principles of love and truth and from what I know and am learning about about God, it is totally possible with God.

This excites me. I have not been excited about something more than my next material acquisition for some time. But this ‘brave new world’ this ‘utopia’ God’s Kingdom on Earth IS possible and is truly exciting – just imagine the most beautiful thing you can possibly think of ever, for a minute, and then billionionise it and I don’t even think that is as beautiful as God has made possible. It is going to take courage, feet walking in the direction of peace, giving up fear and standing for Love and Truth all the time it is not going to always feel ‘nice’ and ‘smooth’ and ‘easy’ under all circumstances but it is possible!

Jesus and Mary inspire me in this. They walk ‘The Way’. They are actually doing it. They have done so for 2000 years and they have come back to show us all how to do this. What a gift! I myself feel so blessed to have met them. What I have learnt about God (intellectually) from them is so cool (what I am learning about God from my own experience is also totally cool!). God is one SUPER COOL DUDE!!! Like so incredibly amazing that I cannot actually quite grasp it and at times really don’t believe it – yet, smile.

Jesus and Mary have so many hours and hours of talks and discussions on the internet if you are interested in finding a whole new way to live. It is not about following Jesus or Mary, it is about your own personal relationship with God and growing that. It is about each of us finding our way home to our true parent God. For each of us that journey is going to be different – look a little bit different, feel different and take differing amounts of time.

Jesus and Mary inspire me that living The Way is possible. Every time I hear a talk or I see them I feel inspired to keep searching, experimenting and discovering for myself and that this is possible for me too. Through their example I know that I can do the same*. I feel like it is possible and the idea that I am a celestial spirit in training, that I will one day be at-one-with God and I can change myself with the help of God and God’s love, enough and that has the possibility to change the world. The more I live the principles Divine Truth and when I receive Divine Love**, the more I grow in love and know God the better and happier my life is going to be (and in my small experience it is better) and the most amazing things are possible!!!

How exciting is that? I feel it’s VERY exciting!! smile.

I just want to thank our friends Jesus and Mary for your encouragement to myself and every person on this planet to discover and live the principles of love and truth, for your love, compassion, kindness, and the many multitudes of gifts that you give to us and to all the world!

To have the gift of your knowledge and desire for God and the fact that you want to generously share that with everyone who wants to know is awesome!

I am excited and feel like finally I have found a way that I can grow forever on, that I can discover as much or as little as I would like to, but that the more I hear about it and the more I find out and feel into it is is changing my life for the better and I am so grateful for you both exposing that knowledge to everyone who wants to know about it!

Thank you!

* I am beginning to realise that we don’t actually need anyone else in our lives to inspire us or lead us if we have a personal relationship with God, but it is inspiring to meet people who are passionate and desiring a much bigger more loving world and living the principles of Love and Truth that can achieve this! A Revolution in Love – WOW! smile.

** This is not something that I have been open to so far on the journey.

Breeding Aviary Project

Some of our smaller friends
This Project is one of Michael’s passions* and began pre ‘Octoberfest’ 2011 and has been a continuing project since. It will be an on-going project that has and will be created in stages.
Stage one consisted of converting a calf house into the aviary. This consisted of knocking out stalls, putting up wire mesh, creating perspex windows, high step up doorways and sealing up any holes that possible rodents or reptiles could enter by. Putting down a sand floor, heating for the winter months, hanging nesting ‘boxes’ and creating water baths/drinking bowls and feeders.

When This was complete some feathered friends moved in. At present there are Star Finches, a Blue Faced Parrot (who will be getting a mate in the next couple of months), Long Tailed Finches, Masked Finches and Zebra Finches. There are expected new arrivals in the coming months.

Almost complete inside view.

Stage two consisted of the ‘first flight zone’. The ‘first flight zone’ has had tin dug into trenches to prevent anything from digging under it, and is fitted out with wire mesh to make an enclosure. This eventually will lead out to a greater or free flight zone with the wire mesh cut so the birds can come and go into a greater flight zone and then into the bush land beyond where they can ‘learn’ survival skills from the native non captive finch populations that inhabit the area. At present there is a small family of Red Brow Finches that come and go from bush land behind the flight zones.

bird food abundance.
Same as above, different angle.

The intention is to eventually have a release programme for native and endangered finches (and small birds in particular) that educates the birds to care for themselves in the ‘wild’. We are in the process of planting a lot of spiky, dense native flora to create nesting and habitat for small birds.

We would also like to design and implement in future portable aviaries that can be taken to regeneration sites near food and water, with birds in them where they can create nests and ‘living’ quarters and be safe from predators while they get established. Once ‘educated’ by ‘wild’ finches (- to avoid attack and not be totally dependant and domesticated) the flocks established and flourishing we will remove the portable aviary and begin the process again.
In the mean time we are planting out seeding grasses that small bird and finches like and that attract insects, shrubs, bushes, trees for nesting and food near to permanent water sources to create habitat and as ideal conditions as possible to encourage breeding and support large populations of bird life.
For more information or details feel free to contact us.

* Though we all gain much joy and excitement from it.

‘Octoberfest’ – Namoi CMA Project 2011

‘Octoberfest’ was a project that Teams from the The God’s Way of Love Organisation (now disbanded), gave their time and energy too in order to prepare for and plant 10,000* trees.

We (the Lytton-Hitchins’ family) had a grant from the Namoi CMA to create a wildlife corridor.

It was a fun filled week of activities consisting mainly of tree planting, building a breeding aviary*, working with draught horses, mediumship, karaoke, singing, dancing and sing-a-longs.
Our objective was to create a wildlife corridor, linking a highway bushland travelling stock route (TSR) with a timbered ridge line some 3km from the TSR. The nature strip follows along two creek lines which already had ample water and some established trees.

Activities of the week:
  • Preparing and planting 10,000 trees in total (we planted 5,000 over Octoberfest)
  • Built swales to improve hydrology (on a large scale with a crawler – already in place)
  • planted bushes, shrubs and trees for bird habitat, insects, bugs and creatures.
  • mulched to help feed and retain water for all the new plants
  • Our intention was to start the rehabilitation process in one planting.
  • Enjoy each others company and have fun
We wanted to give to the land rather than continue taking from it constantly. So we encouraged anyone planting to plant with love or to not plant at all.

‘Octoberfest’ was also an experiment about how our soul, Love, emotions, expectations, demands affect the environment around us (in this case plants).

The objective was to give love to the land in areas that it felt ‘tired’ and had been overly and excessively used for many years.
Looking up to the swale site (Oct 2011)
Walking to ‘work’ (Oct 2011)
Swales ready for planting (Oct. 2011)

Swale Site (Oct 2011)
Pre-made swales ready for planting out (Oct 2011).
Some of the trees to be planted out during the week (Oct 2011).

Another part of the ‘Octoberfest’ 2011 Project was a very ‘tired’ paddock that lacks fertility and has been heavily grazed for many years. Hundreds of years ago this paddock was full of huge trees, a stump and some large holes (scars) are all that is left of it now. We swaled and direct seeded the area with wattle seeds (to regenerate the land and soil).

Some amazing things have happened over a year. The land has begun healing itself with a whole variety of different plants (weeds). Fleabone came up rapidly all over the place in abundance, amongst this was also thistle, dandelions and some very delicate flowers and other plants.

Swales just dug
Swales just dug

a year on from a distance you can see the colour of the fleabone
healing the area
fleabone beginning to do it’s ‘job’ a few months after seeding
fleabone at the end of it’s cycle
A Year on we have noticed that many trees have died in certain swaled areas. We feel that they received a large amount of emotional projections in the form of expectation and demand upon them during ‘Octoberfest’ 2011 which caused them to die.
This can be seen clearly from swale to swale in that every plant and tree had the same planting conditions, the same amount of minerals, water, mulch etc, yet some trees have flourished and grown 6ft in a year and others are totally dead. The only difference in the planting on each swale was the people, so by process of elimination we feel that it has something to do with us the people.
We also noticed that the loss rate of trees from ‘Octoberfest’ was far higher than some of our ‘commercial’ plantings of the past and we feel that the ‘commercial’ plantings had much less investment from those that did the planting. Those who do ‘commercial’ planting are paid and contracted to plant, they don’t really mind what happens to the plants after they have done their ‘job’ of planting the trees.
We found this observation interesting and have been experimenting with it on smaller scales and other projects. An example is Peter’s asparagus planting and cucumber experiment.
Swales a year on – grass and ‘weed’ cover over them now
Swales a six months on
swales a year on in a very dry season
Swaled area a year on – we are beginning to add
dead matter to the swales to create living fertility systems
in the swales themselves. We feel this should have been
done at the time of the project last year.
Some living system ‘food’ Thanks Bunnings!
Some more food, Thanks Bunnings and Munzies!
A swale a year on with Living Fertility systems added
A flourishing tree six months after planting
some trees doing well in the swales
Swales dug and filled with water soon after
A year on swales grassed up and can hardly be seen
in the paddock they are now supporting.

Thoughts on Children

I have been thinking about children a lot lately and the role of being a ‘parent’. From what I understand God is our real parent and I am but a ‘surrogate’, my role really being only to disclose what I have learnt about Love and Truth and God, or maybe it is even less than that. Maybe if I just convey to the little souls ‘How to…,’ ‘How to connect to God…’ then they will discover the rest. This is obviously quite difficult if I have not learnt to do this myself and if it is not in my heart and I am merely holding it in my head. Also there is a problem if I do not feel this myself (which to be honest personally I do not – yet).

Often I feel that I am the ‘god’ in our house and that children should do what I say, when I say, how I say, immediately and without questioning me. This is pretty unreasonable behaviour when I reflect upon it and something I feel I would rebel about or seriously question if it was happening to me, so why do I expect it from the little ones in my care? Why are they any different to me? Why do boss them round, yell at them and often treat children ‘less than’? A good question.

I feel there are a lot of illogical, untrue beliefs around children, both now and historically children have been abused, violently treated, and very badly harmed*. To be honest I feel children often still are being treated in this way. Some of the behaviours I have observed in myself and other parents would not be accepted if they were done to adults or if a ‘stranger‘ did them, but due to the fact that the ‘parent‘ did it is deemed okay.

I feel that there is a problem with this.

I also feel that the only way it is going to be any different is if we begin to take personal responsibility for our actions, be VERY truthful with ourselves about how we actually feel, what we believe and what we think we are allowed to do with a ‘parent’ title. I also feel that it is going to be absolutely essential to choose Love, and by love I mean love God’s way.

I feel we need to choose to love and to give (God’s way) and to allow the pain that is within us to be expressed without projecting it on others, including our children. We also need to stop making others liable for our own unhealed emotions and to actually own them ourselves, trace them to their source /cause and take personal responsibility for what we have chosen to do in response to what was done to us and what happened to us. We need to choose Love and Peace over violence (choose love over fear and anger, and choose to stand up to violent persons lovingly). Though I do not practice this wholeheartedly -yet- I believe it is possible and I believe that it has the possibility to change the entire world.

We are the only ones that can allow our own personal pain out and we are the only ones that can be sorry and repent the harm and pain that we have put into and caused others.

Really unless we are willing to forgive those that have hurt us and to truly be sorry towards those we have hurt, the cycles are going to continue. I do not claim to be an expert at this or even to have engaged this process fully yet.

I am experiencing first hand how the cycle continues though, and no matter how hard I ‘try’ to be different or just act differently to what I experienced and what happened to me as a child, I notice I am re-creating it due to the fact that ‘trying’ doesn’t make a difference. The feelings, beliefs, emotions that are in me dictate the outcome positive and negative. The cause creates the effect and if I do not release the cause the effects are going to be the same. And I am noticing this is true in my life at this time!

I feel when I was growing up there was a certain exceptions and a ‘code of behaviour’ that I was expected to conform to. This was set up by my surrogate parents who felt they ‘knew best’. If I did not follow the ‘rules’ there were various ‘negative’ feeling consequences, often punishments. I am also guilty of setting up a similar paradigm with the children in our care of which I am not proud and am endeavoring to change. Though I can see a pattern which seems intergenerational to me, I do not feel it is ‘right’. In fact I can see how flawed and unkind it is, I personally feel how damaging it was. I feel it can be different and it can be changed in a positive direction and in a couple of generations if we truly desired it. I feel there is a different way to be, a different way to ‘parent’.  Just because ‘that has been the way it has always been’, does not mean that is has to be the the way it is or will be! I believe that it can change if we have the courage to look at ourselves as ‘parents’ and what is really going on within ourselves and between us, our partners and the children in our care.

From what I have observed children FEEL, rather than grasp intellectual concepts and thoughts (especially when small). The idea of ‘do what I say, not what I do’ does not work. Children are feeling beings not thinking beings**(when they are very small). As they grow older and are conditioned by their environment often they learn to be otherwise and for myself I became very intellectual to avoid the painful feelings that were inside of me. Unfortunately this has also stunted the joyous feelings too.

What I realise also though is that children are a gift. If I am willing to be humble, open and learn I can discover a huge amount about myself and the unloving emotions that are within me. They expose those rapidly and with precision – if you want to know.

I look forward to getting to a place of just loving the little souls in our care for the sole reason that they are a gift and totally beautiful beings! Not because I want things from them, emotionally, physically, addictivly etc.

There is so much to love about children and learn from them. I love their excitement, watching them discover and learn stuff, they are naturals at that! I am realising how much I  can learn from them if I can put my ‘I’m an adult and supposed to know more than you’ belief aside. Really it is being humble to being taught by them rather than the other way round. I would like to be as open, forgiving, accepting, loving, humble as they are again! I feel I’ve really grown down not up, smile.

I often feel I have more to learn from the Children in our care than I have to ‘teach’ them. If I was truly humble and owned my unhealed emotions rather than projecting them all upon the children, I feel it would be a much more enjoyable process for both them and myself.

The kids love going on adventures, they are pretty keen explorers and discoverers and are constantly finding ‘new’ species (new to them and often to me, smile). Quite amazing when you think about the process of our being, everything happens a first time, like discovering actually never ends, there is always something we do not know, we have not seen, we do not understand…. To actually embrace that wholeheartedly, that would be a place I would like to be! To be childlike with the children in our care! What a gift, what an honor, what an adventure if I choose to truly embrace that!!!

* Robin Grille’s book Parenting for a Peaceful World gives some enlightening information about ‘the history of’ childhood.

** I am beginning to feel we all actually are feeling beings if were more in touch with how God intended us to be. I have heard that God made us to be totally feeling beings and experience everything through feeling. I feel for myself I have learnt to deny my feelings, to justify, intellectualize, minimise and numb out from what I really feel in order to ‘fit in’ and be ‘accepted’. Often people encourage others to feel ‘but only so much’ and ‘only for so long’ and ‘only certain emotions that don’t make me feel uncomfortable.’ In my experience there are a lot of ‘rules’ and beliefs around feelings sometimes those differ depending on the environment that you grew up in.

4.OVERVIEW OF WEEK’S ACTIVITIES

* 28th November – Swales, Systems & Contour Planting

We will begin the week in a large paddock (around 100 acres) focussing on large scale soil improvement and water management. Methods to be demonstrated and created include: using contours and ponds to redirect and retain water, and building living eco systems to provide fertility and regenerate soil, and seeding of grasses to prevent soil erosion.
Contour/water management site

*29th November – Re-generation and restoration of swampy land

Activity on this day will using some alternate methods to reduce water logging down from the paddock worked on on day one. We will focus on improving water take up through building living systems above ground and planting shrubs and bushes to absorb water.

*30th November: Swales & Living Systems

Work on this day will build upon swaling that was completed at last year’s ‘Octoberfest’. We will tend to the planting from last year incorporating living systems into swales to create fertility and improve soil.
swales & living systems site
*1st & 2nd December: Various Activities To Choose From
There are three activities to choose from on both Saturday and Sunday. You can choose a different activity each day and have the opportunity to swap between activities during the day at 11.30am.
*Activity 1: Waterless Home Gardening– demonstrating several techniques including fibonachi system to maximise sun and water usage of any area, designing waterflow in your garden, techniques to minimize or completely remove the need for watering, mixed planting incorporating natives both flowering and mulching, fruit trees and vegetables.
waterless garden site

*Activity 2: Nature boxes – positioning boxes for animals and birds according to their particular needs, providing shelter close to food and water. Scouting for suitable locations and some tree climbing will be necessary.

To Be Real…

Dare to be real and authentic as I am! ‘Mustering’ courage to look at what is real and true. Try it, experiment… Who is the ‘real’ me. Who am I when I am not hiding or fabricating myself. Reveal the truth to myself without judgement, without ridicule, just as it is in this moment now…
Looking to others to find myself, looking to others to find answers, looking to others to define myself, looking to others to know who I am etc.etc, I am finding disappointing, confusing, un-helpful and taking me further away from me.  To truly know myself all of me and every little bit, I need to be willing to trust myself, be myself and look inside myself (God can help me and be with me in this process as she knows everything about me and much more. I am not alone – ever, smile, (the choice to be so is mine)).
A good place to start:  look in the mirror to find what is really there, as it is now…feel that as I discover it… Then the discovery of what is possible can begin and I can grow and flourish abundantly with God guiding me…That sounds pretty beautiful… what is the possibility of me? What is my potential? How does God see me? What is my true condition as God sees it NOW? What does God see my potential as? What will I be like, feel like, look like when I am perfect? (Wow! endless wonderings here!) What stands between me and God? what stands between me and God’s version of perfection?
