Thoughts January 2019: Fragments
Written on 13 January 2019, reflection on fragments and facade.
Fragmentation is when we close parts of ourselves off in order to avoid feeling painful emotions. We become pieces, fragments of our self rather than a cohesive whole. Fragmentation is a way to ‘cope’ in the world when we have experienced trauma or pain. It is a way to control emotion.

Under the guilt lies shame
She believes it is a thing to protect
Keep hidden
A fearful feeling to avoid at all costs
Her terror of feeling emotion
Keeps her trapped

Inside is strong, got it together, grounded
Outside muddled, can’t string a sentence together
Feelings, strong, real, true
Her power lies in her emotional expression
Mans way, won’t accept all the feeling until the intellect understands
When she agrees she misses out on the wisdom contained in the emotion
